Claims Questions
A deductible is the portion of the claim that you are financially responsible for. In other words, it is your financial contribution toward repairs required as a result of a covered loss.
The mortgage company is listed on the building payment because they have a financial interest in your home. Your insurance policy is a contract that requires us to include your mortgage company’s name on any settlement check involving the building or other structure. Contact your mortgage company to determine what their requirements are for securing their endorsement.
Occasionally, another person may be responsible for the damage to your property. If so, we may seek reimbursement from that other person or that person’s insurance carrier. Our pursuit of reimbursement is referred to as “subrogation.” We may need your cooperation with this effort. If there is a recovery, you may receive reimbursement for some or all of your deductible.
Feel free to call the claim department at 800-498-0954, Option 2. Our regular business hours are 8AM to 4PM, Monday through Friday.
We understand that having your claim denied is not the outcome you were expecting, or you wouldn’t have filed the claim in the first place. We do our best to treat all our Policyholders fairly and we try to provide a clear and detailed explanation any time we must deny a claim. That said, nobody is perfect. If we made a mistake and adjusted your claim unfairly, we’d like a chance to make it right, which is why Farmers of Salem maintains an internal appeals panel consisting of multiple individuals who do not work for the claims department. This panel has the authority to overrule the claims decision if they find it to be unfair or improper. If you do not agree with our evaluation of your claim, you may have the Panel review it by submitting a written request.
To determine coverage, a claim must be set up and investigated, which typically includes an on-site inspection of the damages claimed.
You should contact your agent with any questions related to your premium.
Recoverable depreciation is the difference between the actual cash value of your claim and the total cost of repairs or replacement. A covered claim is normally paid at actual cash value (ACV), which is the cost to repair or replace today, less depreciation based on age and condition.   If your policy is a replacement cost policy, depreciation is considered withheld depreciation.  Once repairs or replacement are completed, you may be entitled to recover all or part of that withheld depreciation.  Factors include the total dollar amount you paid for repair or replacement, including your deductible, and the scope of what was repaired or replaced.
